What began as a commitment to support learners grew into a 13-year journey of lighting hope and creating opportunities.
On 8 November 2025, that journey reached a defining milestone as Chalan Foundation was officially launched, bringing together leaders, partners, supporters, communities and friends who have been part of the journey. The launch marked not the beginning of Chalan's story, but a celebration of 13 years of experience, lessons and impact.
Founded by Ms. Margaret Koech, Chalan Foundation was born from lived experience and a deep understanding of the barriers that can prevent learners and young people from realizing their potential. Her journey shaped a simple but powerful conviction: when someone believes in you and creates an opportunity, that support can change the course of a life—and its impact can reach generations.
Over the years, this conviction has grown into work across communities, schools and families, supporting learners through education access, scholarships, life skills, health support, economic empowerment and opportunities that help young people discover their potential.
The official launch was graced by the Chief Guest, Cabinet Secretary for Health, Hon. Aden Duale. Also present were the Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service, Hon. Felix K. Koskei, EGH; Principal Secretary for Basic Education, Prof. Julius Bitok; and Principal Secretary, State Department for Immigration and Citizen Services, Dr. Belio Kipsang.
In his address, the Chief Guest challenged stakeholders to move beyond simply celebrating good work and instead invest in it. He called on corporates, philanthropists, development partners, government, and individuals to turn their support into tangible opportunities for learners and communities, emphasizing the importance of investing in initiatives that address the realities children and communities face beyond the classroom.
A major highlight of the launch was the unveiling of the 2025–2030 Strategic Plan, setting a clear direction for Chalan's next chapter. The plan builds on 13 years of experience while looking ahead to reaching more learners, strengthening communities and creating lasting impact.
The launch was therefore more than a celebration. It was a moment of reflection, recognition and renewed commitment.
Thirteen years have brought Chalan this far. The next chapter is about going further—turning lessons into action, partnerships into opportunities and hope into lasting change.
